Consultation Before and After: Living Room Edition

Our clients were not in love with their living room. They found themselves spending lots of time feeling relaxed at chic bars and cozy cafes; the goal was to achieve some of that same vibe in their own home and make their living room a place where they actually wanted to hang out.

They called us in to provide a one-time in-home design consultation to get advice on what changes they should make.

Their current set-up, pictured below was just not doing it for them.

Here are some of the suggestions we provided during an in-home consultation to make their living room work better for them:

  • Since you do not want to change the tile on the fireplace, consider making it a focal point and painting the chimney breast black. (They already had the Frame TV which is great since it looks like art.)

  • Invest in a tan leather sofa which will add warmth and capture the mid-century modern look you gravitate towards

  • Opt for two comfortable lounge chairs in a soft fabric to complement the new sofa, which will be great for a conversation area for when you have guests over

  • Add a bar cart with art or a mirror above it on one side of the fireplace (where the tree is currently)

  • Hang art on the other side of the fireplace to balance it out

  • Incorporate a large area rug to ground the space

  • Consider adding window treatments such as drapes or a roman blind for softness

  • Bring in layered light for a soft effect (i.e. floor lamps, table lamps)

  • Include more greenery with additional large plants

  •  (They planned to change the floors as part of a larger reno. We confirmed their decision to go with a light oak wide-plank floor with warm tones and knots which kept showing up in their inspiration pictures!)

The ideas we provided were easily actionable and could be implemented altogether or one at a time.

Take a look at all the changes they already made in the photo below and how good it is looking!

👏👏👏 We love receiving progress photos from our clients - you can just see the newfound pride and joy reflected in their home.
